SAIC Motor and China Railway band together to promote logistics services
SAIC Motor Corporation Limited (SAIC Motor) signed a strategic cooperation framework with China Railway in late July in Beijing, aimed at promoting supply-side structural reform and driving the development of the logistics industry.
SAIC Motor has been striving to become a comprehensive provider of automobile products and services though relentless innovation. The cooperation between the two industrial giants was expected to create public value by taking advantage of each side’s strengths, expanding the market by creating new logistics models.
According to the agreement, the two sides will join forces to promote supply-side structural reform, making use of China Railway’s wide coverage network, strong transport capability, abundant storage resources and low energy consumption, to provide cheaper professional services to clients.
SAIC Motor and China Railway will establish a platform to provide multimodal transportation services that utilize the advantages of highway and railway transportation.
With implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, SAIC Motor and China Railway’s promotion of vehicle and parts exports extends along special railway lines to Europe and Asia. The partnership also aims to strengthen information sharing and cultural enterprise exchanges.
One of China’s auto giants, SAIC Motor sold 6.49 million vehicles in 2016, placing it 41st among Fortune’s Global 500 and seventh in the global automobile field. In the first half of 2017, SAIC Motor reached a sales volume of 3.174 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 5.76 percent.
The logistics business also saw rapid growth. Anji Automotive Logistics Co Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC Motor, improved its logistic layout, which covers more than 4,000 expressways, seven waterways, six coastal routes and 21 ships. A global provider of automotive logistics services, Anji features an intelligent system of 26 storage centers and 26 major railway lines.
Focused on becoming a globally renowned automotive enterprise, SAIC Motor makes strides in establishing an intelligent logistics service platform to deliver extended professional services to clients at lower cost and with less energy consumption.
